Arunachal Pradesh is the northeastern frontier, Himalayan country where the road itself is the journey. Tawang, in the state’s west near the Tibetan border, sits at about 2,700m behind the 4,170m Sela Pass, and holds the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world.
Trips here run from Guwahati in Assam: two days of climbing through Bomdila and Dirang, then Tawang’s monastery, the 1962 War Memorial, Madhuri Lake and the high passes. An Inner Line Permit is required for Indian nationals, we arrange it.
