Dirang sits at about 1,497m in a sheltered valley 42km below Bomdila: the hot springs by the river, apple and kiwi orchards, the National Yak Research Centre up the slope, and the old Dirang dzong above town. The Sangti valley, a wintering site for black-necked cranes, is minutes away.
It is the best night-stop on the climb: lower altitude, warm water, easy walking.
