The Khampti people
The Tai-Buddhist people of Namsai and the Lohit plains.
The Khampti (Tai Khamyang-Tai group) are Theravada Buddhists of Tai origin settled in the Lohit and Namsai plains, their golden pagodas and village monasteries a Southeast-Asian thread in Arunachal’s fabric.
Their Sangken water festival each April bathes the Buddha images, and their manuscript tradition keeps palm-leaf and folded-paper scriptures in monasteries.
