The Galo people
The West Siang people of Aalo and Mopin’s white-painted April.
The Galo live in the West Siang and Lower Siang hill country around Aalo and Basar. Their spring festival Mopin celebrates prosperity with the Popir dance, rice-paste whitewashing of faces, and generous rice beer.
Galo villages sit between the great river and the Mechuka road, bridging the Adi plains culture and the Memba high valleys.
