The Idu Mishmi people
The Dibang valley people and the Reh festival, guardians of tiger country.
The Idu Mishmi live in the Dibang valley country around Roing and Anini, one of India’s most sparsely populated landscapes. Their Reh festival opens the ritual year each February, and their shamans (igus) keep a distinct ritual tradition.
Idu lands overlap prime tiger forest, and the community’s tiger-clan beliefs have made them central partners in the region’s conservation science.
