How Many Days for Meghalaya? 3, 4, 5 and 6 Day Plans
Meghalaya deserves 4-5 days. Three is a sprint through Shillong and Cherrapunji; four adds the root-bridge treks; five lets you sleep at Dawki-Shnongpdeng and still breathe. Six is luxury with Mawsynram and the west.
The day math
- 2 days: Shillong plus a Cherrapunji day-trip. You will drive more than you look.
- 3 days: Shillong, Cherrapunji waterfalls and caves, Mawlynnong. Feasible, fast.
- 4 days: the 3-day plan plus the Nongriat double-decker trek, overnight in the valley.
- 5 days: add Dawki and Shnongpdeng with the Umngot boat. The sweet spot.
- 6 days: add Mawsynram or the Nongkhnum island river circuit.
What eats your time
Meghalaya’s distances look small and drive long: 60km can run 2.5 hours on these roads. Monsoon (June-September) doubles everything; the monsoon guide explains the trade-offs, waterfalls at full power versus slippery treks.
Pairing Meghalaya
Most travellers bolt Meghalaya onto Assam: Kaziranga then Shillong, about 6-7 days together. December adds the option of flying up to Hornbill after.
