Mechuka in October: autumn in the Siyom valley
October is Mechuka’s open window: the Siyom river runs clean, the valley goes gold-green, and the last monsoon slipslides have usually been cleared. Arunachal’s far-west gem rewards the long drive with a runway-shaped plateau, Memba villages and a suspension bridge that photographs itself.
What October feels like
- Days: 15-20C, dry, big skies.
- Nights: 8-12C, blanket weather.
- Roads: post-monsooed and repaired; still a full-day drive from Along.
How to plan it
Mechuka needs days: the drive in via Along is the journey, not a commute. Fly or rail to Dibrugarh or drive from Guwahati, overnight at Along, then the valley. ILP for Arunachal is mandatory and online, see the permit guide. Base details live on the Mechuka page; October conditions across the state are on Arunachal in October.
