How Early to Book Hornbill Festival? The Real Booking Curve
Book flights when you see a fair fare (September onward), stays by mid-October, and camp-based seats by early November. Every year the curve sharpens: Hornbill is a ten-day window in a small hill city, and everything from beds to taxis is priced and filled by scarcity, not mood.
The curve, week by week
- September: calm. Flights to Dimapur reasonable, camps flexible.
- October: corporate and college groups lock blocks. Kohima hotels tighten.
- Early November: fixed-departure camps release final seats; flight fares climb.
- Mid-November: the good stays are gone; homestays carry the overflow.
- Last week: everything costs more, some days sell out entirely.
What can wait
Entry passes can be bought at Kisama (our packages include them anyway, how to choose). The ILP is waived during festival week. Taxis exist if you pay festival-week rates.
What cannot wait
- Beds near Kisama or in Kohima
- Camp seats on opening and closing weekends (which days to pick)
- Flights into Dimapur, the only airport (transport guide)
Quick answers

Does Hornbill sell out? The good stays and camp weekends do; the arena itself does not.
Is last-minute Hornbill possible? Yes, with flexible dates and a bigger budget; mid-week days are the fallback.
