Drum into

Zunheboto in January

The Sümi heartland and its great church.

Quick answer. Cool and dry. Clear days, cold nights, the hills at their easiest outside December. For Zunheboto specifically, January is a comfortable month with the usual hill-state caveats.

Why January here

Sümi country: hilltop churches, Tuluni in July and the ridge town of the state’s interior.

Zunheboto is the Sümi Naga headquarters on a high ridge: the enormous Sümi Baptist Church above town (among the largest in Asia by capacity), villages of log drums and feasts of merit history, and Tuluni, the Sümi festival, in the July 8 window.
