ILP covers the district for Indians

Longwa is the famous border village of Mon district: the international line runs straight through the Angh (hereditary chief)’s house, so his dining room is in India and his bedroom in Myanmar, and villagers cross the line daily as they always have. Tattooed elders, village morungs and ridge-top views make it the highlight of Mon.

Quick answers

Longwa at a glance

Can I cross into Myanmar from Longwa?

No: the border is open to villagers by local arrangement only; visitors enjoy the view and the house, not the crossing.

Permits & season

ILP required for Indian nationals outside the Hornbill window (waived Dec 1–10 with photo ID), online at ilp.nagaland.gov.in; foreign nationals pay a fee.

October to March is the clean window; December adds the Hornbill Festival, and the monsoon makes eastern roads slow.
