The full picture
Nagaland requires an Inner Line Permit for visitors entering the state, under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation framework. The official portal (ilp.nagaland.gov.in, updated 2026) lists the domestic tourist ILP at ₹200 with 30-day validity and the foreign tourist permit at ₹500, also 30 days.
The document checklist for Indian tourists is short: a recent passport-size photo and one of Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, bank passbook or ration card. Applicants from Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Karimganj and Hailakandi are asked for NRC documentation. Apply online before travel; approvals are usually quick but do not leave it to the last night.
During the Hornbill Festival (December 1-10) the government waives the requirement for festival visitors: carry a government photo ID. The same relaxation was formally notified for the 2025 festival on the official portal. Outside festival dates the normal rule applies.
