Kapamodzu Cosmos Season: When the Tabletop Turns Pink

Every October and November, Kapamodzu’s tabletop fills with cosmos, pink and white to the horizon line, and Nagaland gets its flower season postcard. The bloom is why the peak’s reels blow up every autumn; this is how to actually be standing in them.

When the cosmos peaks

The fields build through late September, peak across October into mid-November, and fade by the end of November as winter sets in. Exact timing shifts with the year’s rain and first cold; week to week, locals in Zhavame see it first. Midweek mornings get you the fields with maybe a dozen people on the whole plateau.

The flower experience

The cosmos cluster thick on the plateau’s flat crown and the upper slopes toward the ridge walk. The classic frames: flowers against the cloud sea at sunrise, the long flat horizon, and the wooden cabins sitting inside the bloom. The October mountain festival

The state ran its Kapamodzu Mountain Festival in October 2024 (October 11-13) around the bloom; a 2026 edition had not been announced at the time of writing. The fixed December dates belong to the separate village festival; do not mix the two when planning.

Planning the flower trip
