Mawsmai is Meghalaya’s walk-in cave: a lit, one-way passage of limestone squeezes and stalactite chambers a few kilometres from Sohra, doable in 20 minutes by anyone who does not mind a crouch.
Best time: October to April.
Practicals
Permits & season for Meghalaya
No entry permit for Indian nationals; foreign nationals register at checkposts.
October to May works; the monsoon is the point in Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, and the fiercest anywhere in India.
