Hike up

Kapamodzü Peak in January

Nagaland’s tabletop flower peak.

Quick answer. Cool and dry. Clear days, cold nights, the hills at their easiest outside December. For Kapamodzü Peak specifically, January is a comfortable month with the usual hill-state caveats.

Why January here

The 2,620m tabletop above Zhavame: cosmos fields in autumn, a 360 ridge walk, wooden cabins and sunrise clouds, fourth-highest peak of the state.

Kapamodzü is the tabletop peak above Zhavame village in Phek district: at about 2,620m it ranks among the state’s highest and is widely described as Nagaland’s highest table mountain. The climb from Zhavame takes about an hour by the official guide, with flower slopes opening onto a summit plateau with 360 views toward the Saramati range, Japfü Peak and Kohima’s hills, per the state tourism feature.
