Where to stay for Hornbill Festival

You have three real options for Hornbill week, and the right one depends on one trade: comfort versus commute.

Stay in Kohima

The default. Kohima is the hill capital, 30–40 minutes from the Kisama festival ground, with hotels across budgets, restaurants, ATMs and the night carnival on your doorstep. Your festival days start with a short drive instead of a cold walk.

The catch: festival week is Kohima’s peak of the year. Rooms fill weeks ahead and rates climb. If Kohima is your choice, book early — this is the single most common Hornbill mistake.

Festival tents near the action

Our early-bird tent stay puts you close to the festival, with breakfast, bonfire nights, shared bathrooms and 24/7 power included. It is colder and simpler than a hotel room — and it is the version of Hornbill people write home about. Two tiers run per night depending on sharing:

• 3 per tent — ₹999 per person, per night
• 2 per tent — ₹1,299 per person, per night

Early-bird tiers are limited and dated — when they are gone, they are gone.

Homestays and villages

Homestays in and around Kohima — and further out in villages like Khonoma — trade polish for something no hotel has: a Naga kitchen and a family at the table. Book these through us; the good ones do not list anywhere.

• Here for the experience, budget-honest: festival tent.
• Second trip, or adding village days: homestay.
