What weather should we expect in December?

By Mapping Memories · Updated 2026-11-01

Dancers at a Naga morung during the Hornbill Festival

Quick answer: Dry and clear: days 12–16°C in the sun, nights 4–8°C at camp height, colder with wind at the arena’s morning shows.

Part of the weather & packing doubts people send us before booking the Hornbill Festival. Everything below is how the trip actually works when you travel with us.

What should we pack? Do we need thermals? Thermal base, fleece, warm jacket, cap and gloves; thermals are non-negotiable for camp nights. Plus power bank, sunscreen, quick-dry towel, meds, cash, ID and a torch.

Do we need hiking shoes? Not for the 3D/2N, arena plus camp. Adding Dzükou changes the answer and the packing list.
