Manas & Pobitora, the national parks beyond Kaziranga, compared
Quick answer: Kaziranga is the headline; Manas is the connoisseur’s park; Pobitora is the quick rhino win. Manas, UNESCO site at the Bhutan foothills, trades Kaziranga’s crowds for a tiger-landscape of grassland, river and forest, plus golden langurs found almost nowhere else. Pobitora, an hour from Guwahati, packs the world’s densest rhino population into a small reserve, the perfect half-day. Season for both: November–April.
Manas National Park
At the Bhutan border where the Manas river leaves the mountains: a Project Tiger reserve, an elephant reserve and a UNESCO site in one. What differs from Kaziranga: river-bank grasslands, forest drives, the possibility of wild water buffalo, hispid hare and golden langur, and, the signature experience, river rafting down the Manas with the park on your banks. Stays: eco-camps and lodges at Bansbari/Bhuyanpara ranges. Reach: ~3–4h from Guwahati (Barpeta Road is the rail point).
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
48km from Guwahati, ~38 sq km, and the highest rhino density on earth, a guarantee-grade rhino sighting on a morning jeep drive, often before breakfast back in the city. It’s small (no multi-day park trip), cheap, and the perfect first-safari for families and short trips. Go early morning; combine with a Guwahati arrival/departure day.

The itinerary that uses all three
