Hornbill Festival local transport, Kisama from Kohima, Dimapur and Guwahati

Quick answer: Kisama is 12km from Kohima, 20–30 minutes by shared taxi on the festival corridor, with shuttles running constantly through festival days. Dimapur is 74km (~3h), the arrival spine. Guwahati is ~340km, a full day, which is why you fly or train to Dimapur first. Within festival week you barely need a car: the Kohima–Kisama corridor is the most-served strip in Nagaland.

Kohima ↔ Kisama

The 12km ride is a shared-taxi highway during the festival, cabs loop between Kohima and the grounds all day, and after the evening programme till the crowds thin. Costs are small; waiting is the tax, not money. Staying at a Kisama-side camp removes this ride entirely (the reason our camp location is deliberate, camp guide).

Dimapur → Kohima → Kisama

Guwahati → the festival

Evenings and the carnival run

The night carnival is in Kohima; concerts are in town. If you sleep at Kisama, your evening ride is with the crowd flow, shuttles and shared cabs run late but thin after 10pm; camps run their own evening runs. If you sleep in Kohima, you walk home from the carnival, the better late-night logistics, worse morning ones.

When to stop calculating
