The high lakes sit along the Buddhist belt: Gurudongmar (about 17,800ft, Indians only under current rules), Tsomgo’s frozen sacred bowl, Sela Lake at the pass, P.T. Tso and Sangetsar (Madhuri) above Tawang, and Meghalaya’s low-altitude answers in Umiam and Umkhakoi.
