Unakoti is the great rock-art site of the Northeast: colossal Shaiva images carved into the gorge walls, dated by official tourism material to the 7th-9th centuries if not earlier, with the central Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava described at about 30 feet including head-dress.
Ashokastami’s bathing fair (Mar-Apr lunar) fills the gorge; the site sits about 186km from Agartala, with Dharmanagar and Kumarghat as railheads.
