Official Tripura tourism brochures state it plainly: no RAP or ILP is required to visit. That makes Tripura the region’s least-paperwork state, and its density rewards the effort: Agartala’s Ujjayanta Palace, Neermahal (the 1930 lake palace of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, about 53km south with its 24 rooms on Rudrasagar Lake), and the rock-carvings at Unakoti, dated to the 7th-9th centuries, about 186km north.
Add Chabimura, panels of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartikeya and Durga cut into the Devtamura hill face above the Gomati river (15th-16th centuries), the orange orchards and viewpoints of Jampui Hills, and the wildlife sanctuaries of Trishna and Dumboor. The state packs a week of travel into a small map.
