People & festivals
Yimkhiung, Sangtam call Shamator home, and the district's calendar centres on Metemneo (August). Every tribe also brings its culture to the <a href="/hornbill-festival/">Hornbill Festival</a> each December, the easiest way to meet all of Nagaland’s communities in one trip.
Why travellers come
Shamator became a district in 2022, giving the Yimkhiung their own administration. Metemneo in August is the post-harvest thanksgiving, village-scale, deeply local, almost never visited.
