Meghalaya is India’s cave country: Mawsmai’s lit crawl, Arwah’s fossils, Siju’s great limestone system in the Garo Hills.
The Khasi and Garo Hills sit on some of the longest limestone systems in the subcontinent. Mawsmai is the everyone-cave, lit and one-way; Arwah adds marine fossils and roomier chambers; Siju Dobakkol in the Garo Hills is the serious one, about 4,772m of surveyed passage per official brochures.
Dry months (November to February) are the caving season.
