Margherita is Upper Assam’s coal-heritage town: open-cut mine country, a heritage coal museum, and the starting stretch of the historic Ledo-Stilwell Road toward Myanmar. The Mounglang Buddhist Monastery near Ledo and Singpho villages add a cultural layer.

It is the eastern anchor of an Upper Assam loop with Digboi and Namphake.
