The Dzükou Valley sits at about 2,400m, a wide bowl of grassland and stream behind the Japfü range, reached on foot from Viswema or Zakhama. The climb from the Viswema trailhead takes four to five hours; most trekkers camp or take the rest house for a night and descend the next morning.
In the monsoon the valley fills with the Dzükou lily, which grows here and almost nowhere else. From October the grass turns gold and the views open right across the ranges.

The climb
Forest and bamboo staircases — steady, moderate, worth it.

The reason trekkers stay the night.
Getting there
From Kohima, drive about an hour to the Viswema trailhead, then climb 4–5 hours to the valley.
