The Tangkhul people

The Tangkhul are the largest Naga community of Manipur, centred on Ukhrul district and the Shirui range where the state flower grows wild and nowhere else. Their festivals follow the farming year (Luira in the spring window), and their shawl patterns are among the Northeast’s finest weavings.

Ask before photographing people or rituals, dress modestly at festivals and ceremonies, accept hospitality graciously, and let local hosts lead. Culture here is lived, not performed: curiosity with manners opens every door.
