The Mising people
The river people of the Brahmaputra’s islands and north bank.
The Mising (Miri) are the largest river-community of Assam, living on majulis (river islands) and floodplain villages from Majuli to Dhemaji. Their stilt houses (mising bambughor) and Ali-Aye-Ligang sowing festival mark the river year.
Mising weaving, especially the mibu galuk jacket, is prized across Assam.
