The Dimasa people
The old Kachari kingdom people of Dima Hasao.
The Dimasa (Kachari) are the people of the old Dimasa Kachari kingdom whose ruins stand at Dimapur and Maibang. Today they centre on Dima Hasao hill district, celebrating Bushu (harvest) each January.
Their stone-and-brick monuments, the chess-piece monoliths of Dimapur, remain one of Northeast India’s archaeological puzzles.
