The Bodo people
The plains Tribe of the Brahmaputra’s north bank, Bodoland’s heart.
The Bodo (Boro) are the largest plains tribal community of Assam, concentrated in the Bodoland Territorial Region along the Bhutan foothills. Their language is now an official Associate language of Assam, and Bwisagu, their spring new year, fills April with bagurumba dance.
Bodo weaving is a household institution, and their handloom dress (dokhona, aronai) is distinctively patterned.
